A few years ago VW introduced the new Jetta to the Brazilian market and everyone got super excited because until then all they had to offer was the overly expensive Passat, the old Jetta, the billionth time facelifted Golf Mk4 (we never got the 5th or 6th and 7th was only made available early this year) and some crappy domestic econoboxes. Millions of people flocked to the dealerships to buy one over the established Civics and Corollas, but there was a catch.
The only engine available was the 2.0, and not the nice I4 from the previous gen. No, this one has only 120hp. You could have your Jetta in the highest of trim levels and it would always take 11 seconds to reach 60 mph. My 4 speed I4 heavy Citroen has better performance than that.
And then came the TSI, people went mad, you could now have your Jetta with 211hp and it would only cost you $35k while the basic Jetta could be had for $26k. Now you could either have your Jetta in weak boring flavor or super spiced turbo sriracha sauce. This went along for some years until they decided to fit the 1.4 TSI from the Golf into the Jetta and sell it here, it only makes 140hp.
GIVE US A 2.5 NA OR 1.8 TURBO YOU MORONS, EVEN THE BORING JAPANESE SEDANS MAKE AT LEAST 155HP.

I thought the 2.5 NA was awful

It was better than the current 120hp washing machine engine.

NA 2.5 is a dead engine, but here's hoping you get the 1.8t....and that its not a sludgy turd like the last 1.8t

lol, I guess.
But why does it even matter? It's just the Jetta. Nothing special about that car in the first place.

Germans usually underrate the power of their cars, and the 1.4 TSi is no exception. That's the result from the dyno (the test was from a brazilian magazine, and the car was a Golf 1.4 TSi with the 7-speed DSG). The torque seems a bit optimistic... otherwise, not bad at all.

I have just realized the foolish leap in logic I have made; that you must be in France because that's where Citroens are made and sold, and they obviously cannot be exported from there to anywhere else since they are not sold in America.
I feel dumb now.

Nah, that's understandable, they only sold around 4 C5's here.

I just annoys me deeply that they cannot sort out their engine choices.

Honestly, I'll probably never buy a VW unless it is a B5 bulletproof Passat or a Phaeton. It just annoys me that their engine choices are so weird

No, its a great motor for some people. power off the line, unlike a turbo.

Do you, or have you ever owned a car with this engine?
